Years 5 – 6

Year 5 and 6 students at Northholm learn necessary skills and strategies for effective transition towards the Secondary School. Leadership and autonomy, taking responsibility for their own learning, move to the forefront of their overall development, enabling students to further their personal growth.

Students in Year 5 and 6 are offered off-campus opportunities and excursions to represent the school and develop a deeper understanding of learning in context. These experiences offer students’ the ability to develop relationships with their peers whilst engaging in purposeful learning opportunities within the broader community.

Year 5 and 6 Leadership at Northholm

Leadership

Leadership in learning and in manner is nurtured both within Northholm and the wider community. Students become equipped with the skills to be confident and astute members of society who seek to learn and move forward. There are opportunities for peer leadership with Primary School Captains, House Captains and Agriculture Captains. In accepting responsibility for organising activities, managing House points and monitoring the wellbeing of animals, the students develop responsibility, resilience and skills for problem solving.

Information Technology

Recognising the importance of information technology skills in modern secondary education, Years 5 and 6 students participate in the Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) program which seeks to develop their computing skills in preparation for entering Year 7.
