In June, Northholm Grammar’s Senior students brought Neil Simon’s The Good Doctor to life across four shows, delighting audiences with a wonderful celebration of life’s ridiculous, tender and touching moments. Directed by Northholm’s Head of Performing Arts, Dr Sylvia Morris, the production was filled with eccentric characters, surprising twists and laugh-out-loud moments.
A hit on Broadway, The Good Doctor is a witty and heartwarming collection of short plays by Neil Simon, inspired by the timeless stories of Anton Chekhov. The show features a series of witty vignettes — inviting audiences to laugh, reflect and perhaps catch a glimpse of themselves in the stories unfolding on stage. At times charming, hilarious, sad and touching, the comedy features an unforgettable cast of characters brought to the stage by the dedicated Production team.
Both the cast and crew brought enthusiasm and heart to every aspect of the production, both on stage and behind the scenes. Their commitment to producing an extraordinary show was evident in their stellar performances, impeccable comedic timing, beautiful costumes and detailed stagecraft.
The show would not have been the success it was without the Director, Dr Morris, whose dedication, vision and encouragement were the driving force behind the play. We also extend our sincere gratitude to our wonderful School community, whose behind-the-scenes efforts, encouragement and generosity played a vital role in bringing everything together.
At Northholm, Drama productions are enriching curricular and co-curricular events that provide students with the opportunity to develop their performance skills and strengthen their relationships as they work together. Students involved in Drama gain a wealth of important life skills, including quick-thinking, focus, working collaboratively in groups and reflection, as well as invaluable experience performing to a live audience.
