Students bring musical creativity to the Northholm stage

On Friday 14 and Saturday 15 November, Northholm Grammar’s Year 7 and Year 8 students brought the musical adventure Ivy Shambitt and the Sound Machine to life with energy, imagination and charm. This uplifting musical invited audiences into a world of invention, friendship and courage and our students rose to the occasion with confidence and enthusiasm.

The story follows young inventor Ivy Shambitt, who proudly unveils her latest creation: the Sound Machine. The invention soon proves more powerful than she expects and when things go awry, Ivy and her friends must work together to restore harmony to their town. Their journey is a celebration of imagination, teamwork and the joyful magic of music — themes that resonated strongly through the cast’s thoughtful characterisation and spirited performances.

Across both performances, students showcased exceptional talent on stage and behind the scenes. Their commitment to rehearsal, collaboration and learning was clear in every moment and the production reflected not only the hard work of our young performers but also their growing confidence, resilience and joy in sharing their art.

This year’s production was directed by Dr Morris, whose leadership and passion for Drama continue to enrich the Creative and Performing Arts at Northholm. We extend our sincere thanks to Dr Morris for her vision, guidance and dedication to nurturing the abilities of every student involved.

The Creative and Performing Arts play a vital role in Northholm’s co-curricular offering from Kindergarten to Year 12. Engagement in Drama provides students with far more than performance skills. It encourages quick thinking, focus, collaboration, empathy and self-expression, while also strengthening relationships as students work together towards a shared goal. For many, this experience becomes a highlight of their school journey and is a chance to challenge themselves, discover new talents and contribute meaningfully to the life of the School.

Northholm Grammar is incredibly proud of the students who contributed to Ivy Shambitt and the Sound Machine. Their dedication, teamwork and creativity were evident throughout both performances, and we look forward to seeing how they continue to grow as performers and learners.
