In 2026, Northholm Grammar School launched the Northholm Institute for Cultivating Excellence (NICE) — a School-wide initiative designed to strengthen teaching and learning for all students and contribute meaningfully to educational practice and innovation.
For parents, the most important question is simple: what difference will this make for my child? The answer sits at the heart of why NICE exists. At Northholm, we believe excellence in learning is predicated on excellence in teaching, and excellent teaching results from well-trained staff. NICE has been established to develop, curate and disseminate best practice in teaching and learning so every student benefits from lessons that are clear, consistent and designed to help them flourish.
NICE also reinforces Northholm as a place where exceptional educators are attracted to join, grow in their practice and make a long-term contribution to the education of young people. For students, this investment matters: when teachers keep improving, classroom practice stays sharp, expectations stay high and learning remains purposeful.
The Institute is led by the Dean, Mrs Fiona Walker, who was appointed following a national and international search. Her work reflects a deep commitment to evidence-based teaching and instructional coaching, with a practical focus on strengthening classroom practice and student outcomes. She will lead a specialised team of instructional leaders across the school, with portfolios to specifically enhance Kindergarten to Year 6 literacy and numeracy, and across Secondary disciplines and leadership.
Through NICE, Northholm is also forging strategic partnerships with universities and other educational institutions, building an empowering network that supports professional learning, research and innovation.
Ultimately, the Institute’s goals align with Northholm’s ongoing commitment to academic excellence and a learning environment of high expectation and personal responsibility. NICE has been purposefully designing to elevate your child’s everyday experience through excellent teaching, strong learning foundations and a School culture where students are known, challenged and supported to achieve their personal best.
