On Monday 28 April, the Northholm Grammar community solemnly gathered to honour and acknowledge the courage, sacrifice and service of the Australian and New Zealand men and women who have served our country, as well as those who continue to serve as military personnel today. This year marked the 110 year anniversary of the Gallipoli campaign of World War I in 1915.
During the service, we were privileged to have Mrs Cheryl Hill, President of Castle Hill RSL Sub-Branch, recount her experience serving in the Australian Defence Force in the Royal Australian Navy as a radar and weapons analyst. In her speech, Mrs Hill also spoke to the critical role women played in World War I and World War II. Mrs Hill was accompanied by Northholm Grammar’s School Captain and 2024 ANZAC Ambassador Isabelle Henderson, who addressed the School community with an inspiring speech in remembrance of those who lost their lives in conflict whilst protecting the freedoms we enjoy today.
Prior to the ANZAC wreath being laid by our Primary School Captains, Johnny Race and Elodie Davies, the Senior Choir sang a stirring performance of I am Australian, followed by The Last Post and a one-minute silence as we reverently reflected on our fallen. Our Cadets, Thomas Clarke, Vicky Cui, Reet Sonu Goraya, Rion Sonu Goraya formed a ceremonial escort for our official party.
A century and a decade on, the ANZAC legacy still lights our way: courage in adversity, mateship across every divide, and quiet service without expectation of reward. May we honour that legacy not only in ceremony, but in our daily choices.
Lest We Forget.
