Inaugural Agribusiness Study Tour down the Canola Trail!
Last week, the HSC Agriculture and Business Studies students saw their syllabus come to life, with the inaugural Agribusiness Study Tour. We travelled down the Canola Trail through Junee to Wagga Wagga. Students enjoyed tours of a Canola farm and the Riverina Oils and Bio Energy Pty. Ltd. Oilseed that processes canola from the surrounding area. Students gained valuable information regarding market trends and how the swine flu in China has affected global oilseed production in a meeting with a grains economist from Rabobank. Presentations from researchers from Charles Sturt University’s Functional Grains Centre also provided students with an insight into this important industry. The last stop of the tour was the Junee Licorice Factory that value adds starch into licorice. Students enjoyed a hands on experience into manufacturing by creating their very own ‘giant freckle’.
