An excellent Creative Arts Performing Arts (CAPA) Showcase

Northholm-News

Northholm Grammar School recently hosted its Creative Arts Performing Arts (CAPA) HSC Major Works Showcase which is a significant event in celebrating the talents and attributes of our fine Year Twelve students. The Creative and Performing Arts is a vital part of life at Northholm and plays an important role in providing a balanced education in the growth and development of our young men and women.

Our Music 1, Music 2 and Music Extension students opened the evening with a series of musical pieces they have been working on during their HSC year. One of those musicians included Anna Ignatovich who has completed all her AMEB examinations including her Grade Eight Level which she completed in Year Ten. Mitchell Old is another musician who has achieved enormous success throughout the year having been awarded third place in the Open Saxophone section, third place in the Open Quartet section and first place in the Under 19 Quartet section in the National Solo Competition in Brisbane.

The Northholm community then had the opportunity to observe the Visual Arts, Design and Technology and Society and Culture major work projects. The Visual Arts ‘Body of Works’ ranged from visual representations of human migration, the demise of professional photography and surrealists drawings capturing the memory of family loved ones. The Society and Culture ‘Personal Interest Projects’ (PIPs) allows students to research highly relevant and contemporary societal issues such as the issue of euthanasia,  changing attitudes to climate change, veganism and how chronic illness impacts the family unit. While our Design and Technology students showcased their innovative work which included an expandable coffee table, an emergency off-road survival kit and a CNC Machine Trolley.
