Discipline Policy
Discipline should be firm, fair and positive. In order to exercise discipline, students should know what is expected of them. All detailed rules at Northholm emanate from four basic principles:
- Respect for Persons - All behaviour should reflect a respect for the individual: for members of the teaching staff, administrative staff, fellow students, parents, visitors, bus drivers, tour guides and others. This principle commits students to being polite, to seeking to understand the needs and rights of others and to acknowledge individual diversity.
- Respect for Property - Both individually and collectively, students should seek to protect the property of others, that of the School and their own.
- Respect for Study - No student should wilfully impede the academic progress of others.
- Respect for the Standing of the School - All students should seek to enhance the reputation of the School in the wider community.
The School acknowledges the role of punishment and sanction, appropriately applied, as a form of preparation for life in the outside world, where an individual's behaviour is subject to sanctions in the interest of others.
The fulfilment of this policy is possible only with the full co-operation of parents.
