“A truly special teacher is very wise, and sees tomorrow in every child’s eyes”. Author unknown.
There would be very few of us whose lives haven’t benefited from the influence of an exceptional educator, that teacher who made learning an adventure. For me it was a rather elderly art teacher called Miss Dear whose passion for art was infectious. Decades on I still remember her describing her experience of seeing Monet’s Waterlilies for the first time with tears in her eyes and excitement in her voice. Miss Dear’s love of teaching and her belief in her students was infectious and to this day I am grateful that she opened my eyes to a subject that might otherwise passed me by.
Today as people around the world celebrate teachers I hope everyone in our community can look back with similar gratitude on a teacher that has had a positive influence on their own lives or the lives of their children and perhaps take the time to acknowledge them whether it be in thought or action. Sometimes taking the time to write a quick note to your child’s teacher or tutor to express your appreciation for what they do is all they need to reignite their passion and confirm that what they do is valued.
I for one, am very appreciative of the many different contributions made by both our teaching and administrative staff and take this opportunity to thank them sincerely for everything they do to support the young people in our care. If you or child have benefited from the passion and commitment of a teacher or a member of our support staff I encourage you to do the same. It can only help reinforce their commitment to your children and our School Community.
