Middle Years (Years 5-8)
The key aim of Northholm's Middle Years program is to foster student engagement in learning, develop the self-esteem of students and empower them to become effective and independent learners. In the Middle Years program connections are made between the existing skills, knowledge and experiences of individual students, which are then linked across Key Learning Areas in the curriculum.
In Years Five and Six the academic program revolves around core subjects and includes the six Key Learning Areas prescribed by the NSW Board of Studies: Mathematics, Science and Technology (Core 1); English, Human Society and its Environment (Core 2); Creative Arts, including Music and Drama and Personal Development, Health and Physical Education (PDHPE). In addition to these subjects students also learn French and Japanese, attend the weekly Chapel service and participate in regular Sport and Faith and Life classes.
As in Years Five and Six, the Year Seven academic program revolves around core subjects. This allows for collaborative learning and an interdisciplinary approach to be taken where possible.
All students take the same subjects:
| Core 1 Science Geography | Core 2 English History | Mathematics |
| Foreign Language: French/Japanese | Technology | Art (for one semester) |
| Music (for one semester) | PDHPE Sport | Faith and Life Chapel |
Year Eight is a transitional year, where students are exposed to the more traditional style of the Senior School. This helps them prepare for their final years of education. Students continue with the same academic program studied in Year Seven:
| English | Mathematics | Science |
| History | Geography | Foreign Language: French/Japanese |
| Technology | Art (for one semester) | Music (for one semester) |
| PDHPE | Sport | Faith and Life/Chapel |
