Our Heritage

Northholm Grammar School's name originated in a discussion between Mr Ronald Chambers, Founding Headmaster, and His Honour Judge John Lincoln, Founding Chairman, at a meeting of the Pro tem School Council at the end of November 1981.

Mr Chambers suggested that the School's name include the "Holm" (a type of oak and a symbol for prosperity, strength, stability and comfort). The holm oak (quercus ilex) looks much like an evergreen holly tree. Judge Lincoln then added "North" to suggest the Northern Districts which the school would serve. Thus the name "Northholm" was adopted.

Northholm began with a vision of a small, caring school which would foster the worth of the individual, encourage academic excellence and promote Christian values. It was to be a family-centred school which looked upon its students, parents and staff as part of a 'community' striving for a common goal. It has to this day been true to that vision.
